Now that fall is upon us apples are everywhere. If you are like me you like to take advantage of local produce and incorporate them into every meal. This homemade apple-sauce is the easiest apple dish you will ever prepare, I promise!
Bonus it will make your house smell amazing, and just like fall. Hope you enjoy this sauce as much as I do. Pour it on pancakes, eat atop toast, enjoy with waffles or just eat it as is.
All that is required is a large pan, 10 apples, water, (cinnamon sticks are optional)

First gather your apples and wash thoroughly. I used 4 Jonathan apples and 6 Red delicious. Any apples are good but try and aim for a mixture of sweet apples, this ensures the best applesauce and keeps extra sugar out of this dish.

Next is the most tedious part of making homemade applesauce. You will need to peel and core ALL of the apples If you have an apple peeler or coring knife you should speed through this step.
Put all your sliced apples in a large saucepan and add 2 cup water, cook on high until boiling then turn to med. to simmer until the apples are soft.

This step is optional but gives the sauce an AMAZING flavor.
I used the leftover peels and cores and boiled them with some cinnamon sticks on high until the liquid was dark pink, I then add this liquid to the cooking applesauce.
If you do not have cinnamon sticks a dash of ground cinnamon in the sauce will substitute.

Once your apples are soft use a potato masher/fork to give applesauce it's distinctive texture. If you want it smoother use a whisk. You can enjoy as is or top with some cinnamon.
Ohh this looks delicious..nom...nom.
